Google has only limited such actions as controlling the device through voice command or by a schedule. Featuring a 10-inch HD screen, the Google Nest Hub Max contains a built-in Nest smart security camera to watch over your house when you can't. Video calls with multiple people are also possible and it doubles up as a digital picture frame. Google Assistant is built in, so commands for a Google-led smart home are a breeze. While there is no clock display like the Echo Dot with Clock, this generation adds better sound, a wall-mounting option, presence-sensing LEDs, more microphones and an eco-friendly fabric.
It doesn't have the helpful photos or categories, but doesn't require the website. Here’s another music feature that the Echo Dot simply doesn’t have. If you want the same music played through every connected speaker in your house, Google Home can facilitate that.
Multiple commands
They each allow Spotify, Apple Music, Deezer, and more for music, not to mention video services like Netflix and HBO Max. As we’ve suggested before however, if you’re a diehard YouTube fan, you’re going to want Assistant. While looking through Alexa's video skills, we didn't find native support for as many popular streaming services if you're using an Echo Show. It seems the best way to watch other services using Alexa is to get a Fire TV streaming device for your TV, which offers more streaming integrations than Google.
This means you can do user-specific tasks without having to ask ‘switch accounts’, like you do with Alexa. Both the assistants are at an equal level in this area and Alexa scores over Google in offering integrations with big players like Apple Music and Podcast. Third-party apps in Alexa provide all the functionalities that end-users need and it compensates for the gaps in the original app provided by Alexa. More than one lakh of such apps are there in the Alexa store and there is every chance any weird requirement of users will be met.

If you have two or more devices in the same vicinity, then it's best to give each one its own wake word. Using the smart hub, Alexa can connect all compatible fire and security alarms, smart locks, and even security cameras such as those from Ring, Arlo, August, etc. Both shopping options can shop by recognized voice, but Alexa provides an additional security code option you can enable for safety. Both the Echo Dot line and the Nest Mini line allow you to use their respective assistants to set up voice shopping capabilities. However, they approach this in significantly different ways. Alexa’s version is a bit more complex, but once you get the hang of it you can easily set up detailed routines based on exactly what you want to do.
The choice really then comes down to the preference of ecosystem as opposed to the hardware. Then Google Home is probably for you, as the two areas are only going to become ever-more-closely linked. Google's natural language understanding is superior too, even if its voice implementation still needs some refinement.

The fourth-generation Echo Dot has a 1.6-inch speaker, and you can connect the Echo Dot to a larger speaker if you want. With advanced Bluetooth audio support, voice control, and a 3.5mm audio jack, the Echo Dot is a low-cost Alexa controller. The Home's far-field microphone is about as effective as the Echo's -- just be sure to speak clearly to either device if you have a complex command.
You do have be aware of which smart home products are Alexa-compatible devices and those that are Google Home accessories, because they don't always work with both . Like the Echo before it, Google's speaker is a worthwhile means of bringing order to a home filled with connected devices and multiple occupants. Instead of wrestling with a mishmash of apps and sharing access to those apps with different people, anyone in range can control your smart devices with a simple voice command. Plus, Assistant is more forgiving than Alexa if you flub the exact name of a device.

With Google Assistant, you can voice commands just as you would when you’re talking naturally. With Alexa however, if you fail to follow the correct syntax, Alexa won’t understand any of your queries or commands. AAlexa may have more “skills” / compatibility with more devices and services but it’s hard to use. Google Assistant has fewer skills, called “actions”, but its more advanced natural language processor gives it the upper hand, in that it’s more user friendly. Smart home devices have become some of the most important places for integration with virtual assistants; both platforms have focused some time and attention on this.
Assistant has been getting a whole lot better over the past few years too -- allowing you to even do things like book tables at restaurants and order Uber rides, among other things. Covered in recycled fabric, this is bigger and taller but still looks like the Nest Mini. The difference is that it’s focused much more on audio quality, making it the best Google option for music. We found it great at reproducing bass and like that it has Bluetooth to play music from your phone. Voice assistants are clever helpers that are a key part of your smart home system, responding to your instructions, serving up information and controlling your home appliances.
Like all Google smart speakers, it is compatible with Chromecast so you can even ask it to start playing your favourite Netflix show on the TV while you grab a cup of tea and some snacks. The price, sound quality, size and design of these speakers can also vary, both within ranges and from brand to brand. There are now a lot of smart speakers being sold online, and it can be difficult to work out which are the essential features, and which you will never use. Google's $50, second-gen smart speaker is a great buy, especially when it's on sale (often as low as $29 or free with another Google product purchase). The smallest speaker Google makes, the Nest Mini boasts better sound quality than both the Echo Dot and the first Google Home Mini.
That's a distinct benefit that a potential buyer can understand without even taking the Dot out of its box. The Mini might be smarter, but unless that becomes more apparent to the average buyer, the Dot might be the budget smart speaker more likely to pull in customers who are on the fence. Using your voice you can see your photos, ask for help from Google Assistant and virtually control all components in your smart home.
OK, maybe this is a subjective one, but I like Alexa's sense of humor better. As a result, she now has over 3,000 third-party "skills," which are basically voice apps. Ask Alexa to enable one and she'll learn how to do something new.
